Derek Lopez oversees all buy negotiations for the national and local broadcast accounts by working with the buyers to maximize ICON’s leverage. This includes working directly with agencies and clients during the buying process to ensure deliveries against specifications as well as presenting final executed buys (as needed). Derek also works with all buyers to develop their negotiation skills and pitch ICON’s buys.
During his tenure, Derek helped to develop ICON’s extensive trade relationships in the network radio arena, launching ICON into the top five buyers of network radio. He has also negotiated trade deals with numerous vendors, including DirecTV, Scripps, Discovery Networks, DISH, Hallmark Channel, FX, Nat Geo and Comcast.
Derek is a homegrown talent, learning the barter business from agency-trained managers and personnel. Before joining ICON in 2000, Derek sold ad space for the Post Standard and Herald American newspapers in Syracuse, NY.
Derek graduated from Syracuse University, Newhouse School of Public Communication’s with a BS in Advertising. He lives in Fairfield, CT with his, “best accomplishments,” his two children, Adrien and Tyler. Derek enjoys playing golf and spending time with family. He also likes doing various projects around the house. Says Derek, “I like the challenge of trying new things.”
Most People Don’t Know That…Derek is a big sci-fi fan, with a particular liking for anything superhero related.
